This Creepy Thriller
The director's contained scarefest holds up well without requiring a continuation. Set in the late 70s in Denver, a series of disappearances has rendered the children frightened. But the disconnected phone on the wall continues to ring, with ghostly voices giving advice, while the prophetic visions of his sister Gwen may be his salvation. A solid creepfest. This Dramatic Portrait
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for Mammon in this director's wonderfully garish biopic about the fallen religious broadcaster and her felon spouse. The actor portrays the corrupt Bakker, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye commence capitalizing on the American public's Christian beliefs. It's an extravaganza of bad interior design, bad makeup and hypocrisy, though Chastain manages to show the real-life figure in a likable light. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel
